Being born in Peru, I keep a special affection for my country reason why I could not exclude it in this selection of the places that I consider are best for the practice of diving and underwater photography. Although I initiated my work as a photographer mainly focused in underwater images, I must recognize that the variety of wildlife in my country doesn't stop to call my attention and therefore, has also become a center of my work.
Because of its amazing diversity of climates and ecosystems, Peru belongs a select group of eight countries that are considered megadiverse, where it is possible to find 84 of the 104 existing zones of life in the planet. Its geography, for example, is the habitat of more than 400 species of mammals, 300 of reptiles, 1,700 of birds and more than 50 thousand of plants registered in the world (PromPeru Data)
Regarding the diversity of marine species, Peru is an extremely rich country. Having a coast of more than 2.300 kilometers of extension, that includes from warm waters of Tumbes in the North border with Ecuador to the cold waters of Tacna in the South border with Chile, Peru offers a great number of options for the practice of diving. With this broad coastal line, 737 species of fish, 800 species of molluscs, 300 species of crustaceans and 30 species of sea mammals it is not difficult to understand why Peru has a high level of dependency of the sea: 1% of the global GIP and 20% of the exports of the country during the last five years have been generated by the fishing activity (Ministry of Fishing Data).
As the years come by, I have been noticing that the preoccupation to preserve our natural resources increases although I must recognize that the mutual understanding with the nature still does not reach a suitable level. I hope that somehow the photographies and articles that I will be including in this Web site will contribute to increase the interest to our sea and our geography.
